These photos show an eye that underwent 3 separate Radial Keratotomy (RK) surgeries over 30 years ago. For 30 years this patient has not had functional vision with this eye. We placed fluorescin dye onto the ocular surface of this eye to better highlight the still opened and deep RK cuts. The arrows in the 2nd photo are pointing to several of the RK cuts that never healed. The last photo shows a scleral lens over this eye. The ocular surface of these eye is so distorted that we had to use several computers with proprietary software to design a scleral lens where every hill and valley of the front surface of this eye is replicated onto the back surface of the scleral lens. With the scleral lens seen here, this patient has clear (20/20) comfortable and stable vision for the first time in over 30 years. This is another example of how a well designed and fit scleral lens can change patients’ lives.
